Research expertise/competencies
1) We generate in vivo Drosophila models for genetic and non-genetic diseases, by modeling disease causing mutations. Our current focus is on ciliopathy related neurological and metabolic syndromes, type-2-diabetes and associates diabetic neuropathies, genetic factors of epilepsy. 2) Effects of micro- and nanomaterials on Drosophila intestines modelling toxic consequences of ingestion of these materials on humans.

Available major infrastructure
fully equipped Drosophila genetics lab
Collaboration-based research services
generation of Drosophila models of genetic diseases, testing the consequences of new mutations on a various disease models readily available in lab, testing intestinal and cellular toxicity of ingested chemicals by fluorescent cell-type and organelle reporters
Contractual research services
making mutants of conserved genes, generation of transgenic flies to model disease causing gene activity, testing toxic effect of ingested materials at organ, cellular and sub-cellular levels in Drosophila models
Topics for collaboration
1)disease modelling and understanding the genetic mechanism behind diseases using in vivo Drosohila models 2) sting toxic effect of ingested materials at organ, cellular and sub-cellular levels in Drosophila models
